Micah Daniel van Aswegen
We made this video on the day you were born — OupaAssie compiled, Nana choreographed.
You made your way
into this world on
27 September 2018
at 07:07, all 3.36kg
and 51cm of you.
Delightful blessing,
heir apparent,
gift from God.
You are 8 years old.
You’ve been alive for
96 months or
417 weeks or
2,922 days or
70,128 hours or
4,207,680 minutes or
252.5 million seconds.
Shortly after you
had blown out three
birthday candles,
but long before
there were four, you
lost your mommy, and
you helped plant a
tree in her memory.
Very little about your
young, precious life has
been smooth sailing.
The storms have been
fierce and ferocious.
They have struck
where it matters,
where it hurts most.
With every strike
to your faith,
to your love, and
to your hope, your
resilience remained,
true token of tenacity.
Wise beyond your years,
you bless and inspire.
Consider the number 8.
Planets in the solar system.
Atomic number of oxygen.
Number of bits in a byte.
Musical notes in an octave.
Even number, cube of two.
Strike it down, onto its side,
and eight becomes infinite.
And now, a birthday message
from Nana to her Munchkin:
Keep your eyes on Jesus,
wherever you go and stay.
He is your Hope and Help.
Call on Him, wait for Him.
He will hear you always,
and He will never leave you.
Happy 8th birthday, dearest Micah!
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” —Micah 7:7 NIV

Dear Micah,
This Sunday is alive with beautiful, living things that zoom in and out of sight: swallows doing renovations to last year’s nest, bees collecting nectar from lavender flowers, butterflies darting from buttercup to buttercup, swifts hunting flying insects high in the sky, and our Tienka kitty begging for Kitty Crunch treats!
Many happy sounds come and go. But there is one remarkable young human being whose name has come to stay.
You are that remarkable young human being, Micah.
The sound of your name has come to echo in my heart.
Why?
Because dinos like me have been around long enough to recognise human beings who are in a class of their own!
When the good God made you grow in your mommy’s womb, He made you wonderfully wise, brilliant and able to be a blessing to the people around you.
And this is my birthday prayer for you:
“Father in heaven, You know that things sometimes get very tough for Micah. When that happens, please hold his hand, fill his heart with the light that comes from You, and carry him safely through the difficult times.
And, Father, please give him lots of happy times and some true friends during this new year of his life.
AMEN.”
Happy birthday, Micah!
From a dino who is very glad that you were born.
Oh, thank you so very much for your kind, compassionate words and prayers, dear Maretha! I just need to make one little correction… Micah Munchkin, this message is from Nana’s dear friend and she is NOT a dino, she IS a ROCKSTAR! ❤️
