Another letter from Nana to Stitchie

To my dearest little Alex-Stitchie

The first stages of your gestational development could be described as “touch and go”. We were certain about your in vivo existence, but some serious setbacks during those early days, created a tangible anxiety which made us uncertain about ever meeting you ex vivo. But you defied all the odds stacked against you and thanks to your trouper mommy who kicked some nasty pregnancy butt, we celebrate your very first birthday today!

I remember the feeling while holding you for that very first time in the hospital and I still don’t really have words worthy of capturing it. Your cute, teeny tiny newborn body was cozily swaddled into a blanket cocoon and you were just simply the most beautiful newborn on the planet at that time! While it is true that you made me a Nana for the fourth time on that day, to me it felt just as special as the first, second and third time. Therefore, from now on, ALL of my grandbabies will be FIRSTS – Micah is FIRSTfirst, Emily is FIRSTsecond, Adalee is FIRSTthird and you, Alex, is FIRSTfourth.

For the first few months after your birth, you have been a spitting image of your mommy, but somewhere around month 5 and 6 until a few weeks ago, you switched sides to be a spitting image of your daddy. Today I think you are such a magnificent combination of both your mommy and daddy. I have heard you say NANA months ago, long before you uttered any other word, but thank you for honouring it as a covert operation and refraining from speaking it out aloud as we find ourselves within the sensitive boundaries of speech development and we don’t want anyone to feel inferior about it….nudge nudge wink wink.

I simply love your cheeky little smiles, your contagious giggles and those cute little index fingers of your little-man-hands always pointing to the interesting things in life!

I cannot imagine life without you, and if our Lord permits, I would love to journey with you as you grow up! I love you so much more than I can ever begin to express!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY!

With all my love
Your doting Nana
❤️

Dear Lulu, little Alex may be the spitting image of both his parents… but let’s have the TALK. You could not have overlooked the fearless look in his beautiful eyes? I look into his eyes and I see… LULU. May this little one grow up to be a blessing to many, many people.
