Isla Mae van Aswegen (Scottish name meaning “beloved little island of new beginnings”)
A poem of 25 lines
Thirty-eight sleepies before the
first day of Spring 2026 in the
forgotten capital of South Africa,
a healthy, beautiful baby girl
made her way into this world.
She took her first oxygenated
breath just 23 minutes before
midnight on the 25th of July.
She weighed in at a solid 3.4kg,
measuring 52cm from head to toe.
Her first-time mommy was the
supreme superstar of the show.
Her first-time daddy was the
charming, cherishing champion.
Brand new core family of three.
First granddaughter, second
grandchild to Granny & Grandpa
and third granddaughter, fifth
grandchild to Nana & OupaAssie
in the Lottering-VanAswegen family.
Lord Jesus, thank You for blessing
us with fresh new life which You
breathed into the body of a perfectly
formed little girl, our little ISLA MAE.
Please help us treasure her. Amen.

You treasure her already, Nana. And we stare at her in awe. Heavenly Father, we praise you holy Name. What a beauty… what a gift! Thank You, Lord. AMEN.
Dear Maretha, thank you so very much for your warm appreciation and heartfelt thanksgiving prayer! ❤️
Beautiful!! Happy Birthday Isla!
Thank you, dear Janet! ❤️
Born on my third granddaughter’s first birthday!
Welcome to this world, little Isla! May you always gaze in wonder and awe at all the miracles around you, even if it is “only” a bee’s wings, no matter which curveball comes your way. Know that you are already loved by wonderful, good people.
Dear Carla, thank you for your kind words of wisdom and appreciation! Happy birthday to your granddaughter as well! 🎁
